A three year contraceptive implant is now available.
A small progesterone implant inserted under local anaesthetic in the arm. Similar in its action to depot progesterone injections, the implant lasts for 3 years - at the cost of a normal prescription. The implant tube has to be removed after 3 years or if pregnancy is desired.
