Ferric carboxyaltose is not suitable if any of the following are present:
Side effects of Iron infusions can include:
(Side effects usually occur in first 48-72 hours following administration of intravenous Ferric carboxymaltose)
Following an Iron Infusion you will be required to stay in clinic for at least 30 minutes following the procedure.
There is a procedural fee charge for iron infusion which is $20 for card holders and $45 for private patients.
- Correction of iron deficiency anaemia or iron deficiency where rapid restoration of iron levels is required or where oral iron is not tolerated and/or effective.
Ferric carboxyaltose is not suitable if any of the following are present:
- Age <14 years
- Pregnancy (1st trimester)
- Known hypersensitivity to ferric carboxymaltose or any of its excipients
- Anaemia not due to iron deficiency
- Haemochromatosis or other causes of iron overload
- Uncontrolled hyperparathyroidism
- Infection /sepsis / fever
- Haemodialysis
Side effects of Iron infusions can include:
- Anaphylaxis (a life-threatening potentially fatal allergic reaction which usually occurs within 30 minutes of infusion)
- Para venous leakage may occur and may result in permanent skin discolouration
- Pain
- Skin irritation
- Headache
- Light headedness
- Elevated heart rate
- Elevated blood pressure
- Low blood pressure
- Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhoea or other gastrointestinal symptoms
- Hypophosphataemia
